Topband: Where are the JA stations?

The band might be perking up. Last night just after his sunrise I was 
copying Ross 9M2AX for five minutes or so on 1832.5. He had QRN and 
didn't hear my calls. He was weaker on 80 meters when he QSY'd a few 
minutes later.
