Many of you might have heard the big signal from KM1CC on the band during
the last day or two. Here is some information on that special event
station that K1ZM forwarded:
With special permission from the MARCONI CAPE COD RADIO CLUB and CAPE COD
NATIONAL SEASHORE, UNIT OF THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICES, Krassy Petkov (K1LZ)
and Barbara Dougan (KB1GSO) will coordinate a team of experience operators
to set-up and operate from the Marconi Amateur Radio Station, KM1CC. Full
operation prior to the contest will begin on Saturday, January 16, 2010,
8:00 AM using the club call sign KM1CC.
KM1CC station will be on the air to commemorate the 107th Anniversary of
Marconi's first transatlantic message, which was sent from his Wellfleet
Station to Great Britain 107 years ago. QSL via KM1CC Direct or via
Bureau. Look for us starting January 16, 2010, 8:00 AM to Wednesday,
January 20, 2010, 4:00 PM. After this point, the station set-up will be
modified for the K1LZ Team to operate the CQWW 160 CW contest.
The Marconi Station Site is now part of Cape Cod National Seashore,
established in 1961. KM1CC and the contest K1LZ Team will operate from a
temporary station at a National Park Service facility, the Coast Guard
Station, Eastham, MA. This station is 5 miles south of the original site
in grid locator FN 51.
Numerous antennas have been installed near the salt water in preparation
for the 160 Meter CQWW CW contest and general operating before the contest:
* 160 Meter Four Square Antenna
* 80 Meter Bi Square Antenna
* 40 Meter Bi Square Antenna
* Numerous Beverage Receiving Antennas
* Log Periodic Beam Antenna (10-20 Meters)
I greatly appreciate the MARCONI CAPE COD RADIO CLUB and CAPE COD NATIONAL
SEASHORE, Unit of the National Park Services for their willingness and
support in accomplishing this effort. A special thanks to Barbara Dougan,
Education Cape Cod National Seashore Education Specialist and Public
Information Officer, for her approval and support.
We look forward to working you,
Sincerely,
Krassy Petkov, K1LZ
