At 00:28 UTC on March 7 a major solar flare (X5 level) launched a Coronal Mass Ejection toward earth. It is expected to begin impacting earth's magnetosphere late in the day (UTC) on march 8 or early on March 9.  If the interplanetary magnetic field is in a south oriented position during the period of its impact, the CME may cause extremely high levels of low altitude ionospheric refraction.  The field may begin "ringing" as the CME approaches.  In the past this has produced very strong but short duration propagation effects on low frequency propagation. Be prepared to stay up all night to see what happens on the top band.  A hollow sounding effect on atmospheric noise will alert you as things begin to get weird.
