> Guys - thanks for your input! After reading the posts and doing more reading in the antenna book, it is clear that a common mode choke IS a balun. In my installation, I have no tower to deal with, as there are CC&R / HOA issues. My antenna's apex will be supported by some fiberglass tubing. I might be able to install the antenna w/o any choke, but had issues in the past using QRO - our ancient Ademco security system controller is quite susceptible to RF. I'd imagine there are wires strung all over in the walls, running to every window and door, making wonderful receiving antennas for my RF. And, I simply don't have the time to spend tracking down all the culprit connections. Thus, I'm no longer the owner of an amp - run the K3 at 100 watts (or less) and so far haven't tripped the alarm system, or anything else. To that end, I want to keep it that way and will proceed with using that stack of four large ferrite cores with multiple turns of my coax passing through - ought to keep that feedline from radiating much RF. Again, thanks - see you on the bands!
