To map a variety of compass directions to find a possibly common location try this: http://googlecompass.com

It starts in Barcelona, Spain, but the map can be moved to the USA easily by backing out of the close in view with the control in the upper left and moving the map over where you live. I use the optional full screen view. 

Once the map is located over your location, for example Atlanta, click on show compass in the lower right. Move the compass over your location. Swing the compass with the mouse, or type the direction desired relative to True North (Magnetic North + - local variation) in the upper right route window. Click on the menu in the upper left corner, and manually resize the arrow’s length to suit. 

It’s not perfect and there may be others that work better.
