Topband: Topband NOISE CANCELLERS

Hello Steve!
The DX Engineering NCC-1 works very well with the K3. However it does not
use the diversity reception option of the K3 - as all of the antenna
combining and phasing is done in the DXE NCC-1 to allow signals appear out
of the noise.
The K3 diversity (two RX and two antennas) cannot "phase" two RX antennas to
allow/combine for signal enhancement (or noise reduction) the same way the
DX Engineering NCC-1 does.
Hope this helps.

Tim K3LR

Tim. How does a device such as the NCC-1 work with diversity reception on
the K3? Is it useful there or superfluous?

Hello Marcelo,
Roger on thanking Tom, W8JI!
Tom designed the MFJ-1025 and the DX Engineering NCC-1.
Both MAJOR contributions - helping us to enjoy our Low Band hobby!

Mr. Tom - W8JI
Et. All Top Band guys.
Mr. Tom, is a great honor for me to receive your comments.
I'm sure everyone thinks like me.
I also want to thank all those who are interested in this subject, and
further development of the technique of noise cancellation in the Top Band.
Any hint is very welcome.
I really appreciate yours comments and yours attentions.

Assunto: Re: Topband: NOISE CANCELLERS
... I would like to try the DXE NCC-1 too (have one sitting here) to fight
some noise on 80/160m ...
I have a Hi-Z 8-circle for RX, TX antenna is a matched tower ...
The DXE manual says:
----
"The NCC generally works best when both antennas have similar patterns,
polarization, and S/N
ratios. You may have to experiment to find the best antenna, but successful
operation occurs more
often with similar antennas.
Use with Beverage or Other Low Noise Antennas
The NCC-1is probably most useful when used to enhance reception on lower
frequencies. The NCC-1
is often useful even if the station already employs low noise directional
receiving arrays.
A suggested method follows:
Connect one Beverage or other similar low noise receiving antenna to INPUT A
Connect another Beverage or another low noise receiving array to INPUT B
Connect theNCC-1 RECEIVER connector to the receiver's input line.
If you are using a Reversible Beverage, runtwo feedlines back to theNCC-1
INPUT connections. Then use the NCC-1 to control the directivity and nulls.
----
Any suggestion on how to use the unit best? Set up another single RX
Element? Use 'the tower'?
Thanks!

What is the best acquisition between Timewave ANC-4 or MFJ-1025?
While all of them will work, the Timewave phase adjustment causes a huge
change in level. It also has less phase range. That is bad, because you have
to go back and forth between the controls more.
The phase should really only change phase, and the level or balance should
really only change the signal levels. The MFJ is much better at control
action than the Timewave, and it has much better IMD performance. The DXE
NCC is, of course, better than the MFJ for everything. The DXE has much
wider phase range and better IM performance, but you pay for the complexity.
