Topband: making a bev seem longer

I had one, Pain in the butt to put up, works well, is directional but at my site I’ve never been able to find a RX antenna that heard any better than my inverted L. Including the SAL-30.
I’ve tried a K9AY, a BOG and no joy. I had a HI-Z 4Sq that I bought back when you could buy them as a kit. Used it at the club site for two years with great results during the contests flying a 1/4 wave under a helium balloon...what great times.
Tried to fit it in my yard and no go. So I just use the inverted L. Wish I could find an effective RX antenna that showed a great s/n improvement over the L.
HI-Z builds some great antennas...and one day soon I hope to have a place where I can erect one...but in the mean time my 4 sq is still used by my club....it’s a great antenna.
