Hi Pete,

	I think a ground rod is better, not all will agree. With a rod you do
not have to worry so much about the wires. ( animals chewing, etc)
Tripping anyone, going out of balance and picking up signals. A rod
can be assisted by water pressure to go in. (A copper pipe with a
garden hose attached). Also hardware stores have long drills, drill
extensions, impact devices (similar to a jack hammer, to penetrate the
tough stuff). Whatever it takes to get down into good moisture.

The loop is finished, but I'm having a devil of a time getting a
ground 
 rod in at the base. It's been over a month since the last rain here, 
 and the soil is really hard. Seems like I read someplace that you
could 
 substitute a couple of 50-foot on the ground radials for a ground rod
if 
 necessary. True?

 PS even without the ground, or the feedline chokes, directivity seems

 pretty good on high AM BC stations.

 Any advice much appreciated.
