Hi Jim, hope all is well and settling down out there.
I think the performance was favorable on 160m... we only did limited
testing, but I did work VK4YB using several different T/R periods
(30,60,120). One thing I seem to recall is that the doppler spreading
was greater on 160m vs. the lower bands. Likely caused by increased
multi-path interference (as a result of higher power / EIRP?).
The problem with the current digital landscape on 160m is that it's
become rather monolithic... sure, FT8 is fine for most purposes, but
there are other tools (JT9, JT65, and now the FST4 modes) that can dig
deeper....
