Yes, but all this was still HEARING signals on the radio.
Sounds coming from the speaker...
When I signed up to this list 15 years ago almost every day I was reading:
"if you can't hear them you can't work'em"...
On FT8 you can not hear what you work.
This is the essential difference and it's not OK to say it's still the same
ham radio, just a new digi mode.
People like it, because now, it's MUCH easier and require much less
attention.
Many guys work DXCC's while doing their job on PC, etc.
Or I'm clicking "enable TX", going to the kitchen to make my coffee. Than
I'm back to the shack and ... wow: just wkd ZL3RJ on 160m. Really?
Well, obviously not. My PC connected to my station worked that, what I did
was only my coffee.
