Topband: Ground Radial question - Perimeter connections

Good grief! Do I need to dig up and locate the ends, and connect all of my 60 buried radials now?
It was a big enough job planting 2000 m of wire in the first place.
I took care to seal the end of each of the PVC insulated ground radials, with the aim of reducing water ingress and corrosion.

Another question for the experts...

When installing ground radials on a ground mounted vertical, how critical is it to connect those radials together at the far ends?  Some technical references show the outer tips of the ground radials connected with what they call 'perimeter connections' and I'm wondering if these connections really add value to the ground radial screen.   Has anyone modeled a single vertical or an array with and without these 'perimeter connections' to determine if they are worth the time and effort to install?  Please advise.
