A surprising trans-polar opening last night here into VE6.
At the peak of the solar cycle, my DX-pectations are quite low, but 19 EU made it into the VE6WZ log.
At around 320z I heard a very faint trace from SM5EDX CQ, and then Bob W7RH started calling him.
I then saw a trace on the waterfall from Andy, DL8LAS and we had a nice quick exchange to try and beat the QSB.
Back to SM5EDX, and I logged John after a few calls.
I started to call CQ around 0400z and kept at it until 0600z or so.
The highlight was a call from Damien F4AZF, and he told me he was 100W !! wow.
The strongest signals were from SM5EDX and DL8LAS.
Most signals were weak, with much QSB and I'm sure I missed a few callers that I could hear just bubbling at the noise.
Logged:
DL8LAS (X2), SM5EDX(X2), G3ROO, LA7THA, OZ4MM, OK1CF, LY7M, ON7PQ, ON7PQ, SM2CEW, SM5MCW, OH6RX, OT4A, F4AZF, SM7GIB, SM2LIY, and PC0A.
It was great to hear many old friends again on our beloved topband....all in legacy mode.
Of course, trans-polar conditions last night is no proxy for good conditions again to tonight, but I will be checking the band :-)
