Serious salubrious salutations to the Contesting Elite, Average People and
Lesser Lights,
Disregarding all solar foibles, The Boring Amateur Radio Club is proud
to announce the 2024 rendition of The Stew Perry TopBand Distance
Challenge, This epic CW contest starts at 1500Z Dec.28 and runs for 24
hours. Maximum operating time is 14 hours and it is suggested that those 14
hours should be when it is night time. Daytime is usually not conducive to
high run rates for this 160M only contest.
Much more information exists at . https://kkn.net/stew/
You can be enthralled by the plaques available for heroic adventures
during The Stew as well as learning how to sponsor a plaque yourself. The
rules live there, as well as astounding ways to gain 2X or even 4X the
usual points available for a QSO and you don't have to figure anything out
as the mighty Boring Amateur Radio Club figures it out for you.
So you're worried that your code speed is only up to 14.5 wpm? Not a
problem. If a station calls you that seems to be blazing away at an
uncopyable speed just send QRS. CW denizens, no matter how ugly in person,
are not low-intelligence lagomorphs and will slow down their unintelligible
code so that you might have a decent chance to decode it. Don't know your
4 digit grid square locator? Please don't make one up because that is used
to determine how many points you receive when you make a qso, unlike old
fashioned contests that use scoring techniques from the last century.
Google is your friend or ask your ham neighbor who is imprisoned by digital
modes what his/her grid square is which will be close enough for you to use.
You have about one week to set aside some time discrete from the usual
Holiday consternations. Do extra chores now and rearrange the Dec. 28
schedule so that you'll have the time available to participate in one of
the best contests of the year. If you receive resistance, remind your loved
ones that CW contesting is excellent for your mental health and
functioning. Studies will show contesters may be crazy, but they forstall
dementia and such by exercising the CW apparatuses of the brain
repetitively.
There is still time to create an antenna for 160M if you don't have one.
Invigorate a vertical, slap up a sloper or launch a loop. There will be
moving masses of Operators standing by who will want to work you next
Saturday night during The Stew!
An expanded list of plaques, their Stalwart donors and the categories
available will be ready just before tip-off as you decide what Stew Perry
Radio Feat you'll want to sponsor. The cost is only $65 American, which is
about the price of a small candy bar anymore.
     Thank you for your attention.
73 and I remain,
Lew w7ew
