Tree, very good point. I've had those kind of contacts here with someone working a west coast station I can't hear. As you noted, the timing can work out perfectly to make it seem like a solid contact. 



Since the band has been so poor I decided it would likely be more a US to US contest so, for the first time, decided to try QRP. 



It was, of course, very different from running high power. A reset of expectations was required. I heard more than a dozen mults that I couldn't work. Mostly far midwest and west coast. Not at all surprising. 



Pretty sure I had one receiver looking west, SW or NW most of the time. But even with that help west coast was not heard often. Never heard anyone from Oregon and only one station from Washington. 



Amazingly, at least to me, I was able to work KH6AQ. LOTS of patience on their part. What fun to make that contact!!



Overall pretty fun. Not sure ready to "abandon" high power but likely will try qrp on 160 again.
