Hello Andy,
Thanks for the QSO two nights ago.
I also worked Sig, OZ4MM and John SM5EDX. I heard Peter SMCW, but he was in-out with QSB so we missed a QSO.
Both OZ4MM and SM5EDX were strong enough for my RBN skimmer to decode their CQ.
Unfortunately, the band did not open into VE6 last night at all to Europe, although I did have faint copy from Raoul ZS1C on his CQ.
Its rather surprising that the polar path has opened at all considering the elevated solar wind and geo-mag heat.
The only possible conclusion is from my northerly VE6 location, the polar path to EU avoids the AU ring.
This could also explain why the openings seem focused on northern EU, while avoiding the south.
For example, I had no copy at all from OK1CF who was QRV all night.
During my mornings, the Asia path to Korea and Japan has remained very muted, while operators south of me seem to be getting good signals.
VK-ZL has been spotty, but the band is open on that path.
Steve, ve6wz
