Great advice, Jeff! Among many things Stan observes, loss in decent 
feedlines is quite low at 1.8 MHz, and the advantage of location with 
respect to terrain, especially elevation and/or sea water can be 
significant. Also, N6BT, a fine engineer, has published experimental 
work to show that verticals very close to a drop-off perform well in the 
direction of the dropoff. ON4UN observed this decades ago in "Low Band 
DXing," published in several editions by ARRL. A great reference about 
antennas and propagation for Topband and the lower HF bands.
