I doubt they are old enough, or CB is known enough.

I'd say over-the air TV, which actually does have channels, but isn't 
common, or even FM broadcast, where everything is referred erroneously 
to a channel (Listen to us on channel 103.1!), even though they only 
exist if one "channelizes" their personal receiver.

I'd say it comes from "streaming media", where everyone that streams 
THINKS they have a "channel" for their outlet, a common term, and a play 
on old TV terminology.  "Watch us on our TikTok channel!"

On the other hand, they could be following some of our more modern 
amateur radio convention, like 60m, which has channels, in which case, 
they may be more with it than the rest of us, since 2002.

I wouldn't jump to blame our CB radio brethren right off the bat, after 
all, radio, is just radio, and in the grand scheme of things, the 
amateur hobby aspect of it is barely a molecule of vapour of gnat piss 
on the dark side of the moon.  Funny terms can come from anything within 
the mHz to gamma-rays range.
