I took your advice and hacksawed of 18" if 2" I.D. water pipe, and drilled
two 1/2" holes 7" apart in one end.

One problem is that we do not have the mast mounting brackets for the
bottom of the rotor.  We do not have a Tailtwister, but rather what appears
to be a CDE one step smaller than the HAM IV (perhaps a HAM-M) because it
has a bell housing with integral, (non-detachable) mast clamp and an
internal brake.

Can some one help with this?  Where do I find a lower mast bracket?
