You wanted other ideas heres one.

I use an Ameritron at the base of the tower and a Yaesu remote switch at   
the top of the tower. The Yaesu switch is designed to be used with their   
F7000 linear but uses the same voltage as the Ameritron 12v dc. I like   
the Yaesu at the top of the tower because it is smaller and with no   
voltage Ant #1 is selected. It only takes four wires and controls 4 ant.   
I use the Ameritron at the base to go to other verticals ect.

What is the Conventional Wisdom on remote coax switches?

I am about to erect a US Tower HDX-572MDPL (the base is curing now).  My
intent is to mount a TH-11DX, a 40-2CD (with HD mods) and an
as-yet-undetermined long wire from the top.

This calls for a minimum of three coax runs and one rotor cable.  All   
this
cable needs to be run through an underground conduit from the shack along
with the 110 VAC for the tower winch.  Caution also dictates even a   
fourth
coax run to allow for the inevitable fourth antenna that I will need as
soon as everything is finished!  :)

This is a lot of coax, folks!  A lot of lightning supression, a lot of
weight, a lot of room in the conduit, a lot of money.

For the cost of two of those runs of coax, I can buy an Ameritron
5-position remote coax switch that will give me room for expansion.

Assuming I don't intend/need to use more than one of these tower-mounted
antennas at the same time, what are the pros and cons of these remote
switches?  Are they difficult to properly ground?  Are there better
switches than the Ameritron?

What say you, Oh Wise Reflector?!
