[TowerTalk] Helicopters

I had a similar problem with my hilltop location. I called the FAA and they
said that the 500 foot AGL limit that applies to fixed-wing does not apply to
rotary wing. They suggested that I get the registration numbers of the choppers
and call the FAA back (ideally, with photos to document the low flying) and also
call the owners (here, many of them were those idiotic TV station choppers). BTW,
my situation seems to have improved over the years.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Helicopters

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a minimum elevation required for
helicopters when flying over residential neighborhoods? The helicopters
in question are privately owned and are hired out to do work in cranberry
bogs nearby.

I had one buzz over the house this morning on the way to a bog, and
since he flew almost directly over one of my towers, I would guess that he
only cleared it by 30-50 feet maximum. (The mast top is at 105 feet,
trees are at 75 to 80 feet in height. There are also high tension lines
nearby which utilize 100 foot high towers.) I don't know if I should be
making a friendly visit to these guys to let them know their life might be
in danger or not, but I'd be interested in knowing what the law says (if
anything).

Any answers today or tomorrow would be appreciated. After
tomorrow I will be logged off the reflector until August 1 (for vacation).
