    Yes, you want to use a solid copper wire and a #4 or #6 is appropriate (I
haven't looked up what the NEC wants you to use).

    The only type of connections you should use to bond the solid wire to the
ground rods are either a compression connection (a bolt on a ground clamp or
similar) or an exothermic connection such as a CadWeld. Nothing else is
acceptable.
