If you have an appropriate gin pole and some good ropes
or cables  it can be safely lowered prior to disassembly. 
Rigging is fun but only if you know all the forces involved before
you get started. Check your local engineering library and
pick up an introductory statics book and a riggers guide (Audel
used publish one).
