Once you have the right tools, there are three secrets to good
>soldering. Cleanliness, Cleanliness and Cleanliness. You need a
damp sponge to
>clean the iron tip before EVERY time you solder.
>
>It's a pain to wait for the iron to heat up and to go dampen and
clean the
>sponge, but you will find your frustration barometer go down
quickly once the
>soldering gun is in the trash compactor.

Your barometer will go down even more if you clean the surfaces
to be soldered together, too.

Yeah...the soldering school from Hell....where the students
soldered their little joints using either no magnification or a
flourescent ring light with magnifying glass.

BUT, the instructor used a microscope or *******'s loupe to check
the work!!!

(Sorry for the asterisks...I sent this note out yesterday, but it
got bounced by the system. I'm told by K7LXC that because the
first three letters of the word for those who work with precious
metals or gems used as adornment may have a negative connotation
of some sort, the system filter would not accept the message for
distribution.)

retiree!)
