: I've got about a 600ft run from my home to my 100' tower. I would
: appreciate thoughts as to how well open wire would handle being run
: through PVC that was buried under the ground? I thought I'd put a 4:1
: balun on each end of the open wire and run coax to the shack from one
: end and up the tower from the other.
:
Open wire transmission lines are extensively used on commercial
transmitting sites, but in the air !!!!
That reduces losses as the antennas may be quite a distance away from the
transmitter building.
Usually there is a balun at the end, and a piece of hardline coax going up
to the antenna. Sometimes the balun is mounted at the feedpoint, like on
ham antennas.
Using open wire is a proven way of feeding antennas over a distance.
