You are right, Ward, I missed the "propagated"  word.  The closed loop
is quieter overall, however, it will receive "propagated" noise at the
same level as a yagi with the same gain and at the same height.

HOWEVER, I place my quads low and that makes a tremendous difference on
noise propagated on 10 meters at certain times.  I assume this is due to
the arrival angle.  I have seen 10 meter contests during periods of
unsettled conditions where the noise on the high yagi made it almost
unusable and the quad at 75 feet worked fine.

For "non-propagated" noise (ie: local noise) such as precip static and
dirty doorbells, the quad seems to be quiter.  Please note, however,
that a 4 element quad will still exhibit precip noise, just at a lower
level than a yagi of the same gain.  (Maybe 3 S units less.)
