[TowerTalk] rain static coil

I'm nearly complete building my TH-11DX and sure want to thank everyone who
has helped me with info along the way.  I've got one more question that
maybe someone can help me with.

The antenna is supplied with an "optional" coil that is supposed to get rid
of static buildup from rain.  Should I use this or not?  Is static buildup a
real problem?  Will the coil degrade performance?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
