Hi Buddy,
  There is a type of  heat shrink,( I use ANDREWS ), that has an inner
coating. As the shrink is heated, the inner coating melts and flows into
all the nooks and crannies. It does make for a mess when it is removed
and you're trying to remove the connector.

    During my cable tv work years, I never saw a "properly installed"
heat shrunk connecter, leak. I did see leakage when we used some heat
shrink without that inner coating. And by "properly installed", I mean
that the heat shrink was not nicked and it is heated and shrunk tightly
to the connector / equipment.
 
  This is were it can get tricky.... not enough heat...it leaks ..... to
much heat ... damage to the coax / cable. It takes practice to heat the
shrink slow and steady. Which says something for the plain ole "rubber
seal and 3 wraps of scotch 33 " !
