I got a bathroom scale and 2 "basket" scales, a large pulley, 2 5-gallon
pails of water, an inverted stepladder, and some rope together, to test
hypotheses on weights, compressions, and tensions.   My empirics convinced
me once again of the counter-intuitive-ness of physics ... No, I'm not gonna
give my results; you do the work yourself; this is a test.
