Against all advice, one of our locals installed a KT34XA on 80 ft
of Heights Aluminum tower without guys. It stayed up 3 weeks.
One of the structural deficiencies of the Heights aluminum
towers is that they OMIT the horizontal brace at the top of each
section in the belief that the horizontal brace at the bottom of
the next higher section will carry the load. This is fine for
STRAIGHT sections. On the TAPERED sections, the leg
bends inward and is NOT supported due to the lack of the
horizontal brace. In the above failure, it was one of the
unsupported tapered legs which folded in causing the
tower to fall.
