I enjoyed your second suggestion.  There ARE, in fact, "things" that small:
they're called "finger cots" (I hope the spelling is correct), and most
general practice doctors have them to keep finger injuries fom getting wet.
However, they're not any more durable than their big brothers, and sunlight
will destroy them in about a week or so.
I wouldn't recommend them except in emergencies (no pun intended)!
