i have many runs over 400 ft using 1/2 inch 75 ohm catv
flooded hardline......connectors are easy to build using 1/2 inch brass
compression fittings (plumbing type hdw)
a pl-259 and a barrel coax fitting if a sex change desired!! easy and cheap
to build...commercial connectors available in the 15-20 dopllar range but
have found not to be as qro as the ones i make outa brass plumbing fitting!!
this cable is impervious to wx and is designed for direct burial....ie the
flooding compoud tastes like shit to any hungry rodents!!
i plulled 2-3k feet thru a 6 inch abx flex tubing buried a foot or two down.
abx about $35/100 foot section and is lite aneasy to wk with and can be
readly coupled for longer length needs.....direct burial is desired for
esthic purposes and i believe leads to better decoupling and intermod etc.
protection by being under the ground..
helps keep the xyl happier as well.....when buring in a tube don't ferget to
leave a pull rope in the pipe for adding or mtc purplses later!! a real
pain in the ass trying to add one later!!!!!
the free sources of catv cable have long dried up in oregon except for mebbe
some very short remanent lengths.... i buy 2500 ft rolls direct form the
supplier for arnd 50 cents a foot...this is typically cheaper the rg213
and better stuff long term....ie sheilding, lower loss etc etc....tools for
adding connectors are also available for a reasonable price ie less than
$100. flodded catv cable can NEVER get wet inside unless u do a poor job
with any conectors or splicing...anothe rreason to get it by the reel for
any big jobs....fewer or no splices underground!!
