There have been many good threads on TT about crank ups. I have a US
Tower crank up and I have had very good luck with it. I chose this type
because of property size, not wanting to climb very high, and respect
for my neighbors. All towers can be dangerous. Each type must be
treated with the greatest of respect and care. When I was married, my
XYL's opinion on ham radio did matter to me very much, as it was her
home too! When I was young and foolish, I worked in two-way radio,
which required much high climbing and tower work. I felt on these
occasions, that death was only one mistake away. I plan to motorize my
tower this fall, at that time I will replace the cable which is now 5
years old. I have no problem with either type of tower, but they both
come down, and they both can kill you!
