At the risk of offending someone, but with experience of multiple
thousands of PL installations behind us, I will throw in this comment.
 
Unless one has tailored his soldering iron to a carefully figured radius
on the point so that the iron will barely touch the braid, if at all,
through the expanded hole, the risk of melting too much dielectric and
allowing solder to flow toward the center conductor to some unknown
extent, the hole expansion is a very bad idea.

It was properly designed in the first place, guys - if it ain't broke,
don't fix it - better you should work on your technique.
