Steve,
I use a heavy fence post driver from Home Depot for setting 8' ground rods.
I got the heavier (the blue one) of the two that HD sells, and it works well
here. It was about $30

Subject: [TowerTalk] Stainless Steel for DC ground applications??
Hello all,
How suitable is stainless steel for use as ground rods?
I have recently acquired about 200 - 5 foot by 3/8" dia stainless steel
rods, each with a pointed end.
I am currently getting things together for a new antenna farm on some
acreage I bought this spring. I will be moving the current towers from
here and adding some new stuff.
The plan is to make lightning protection a planned priority. With that in
mind, I my goal is to try and install an effective DC ground per Polyphaser
methods.
Using several ground rods attached along multiple 2" copper ribbons is the
plan. If stainless is not a problem at DC, I can use them along this
ribbon, spacing them closer than I would for 8 foot ground rods.
I also HATE working with 8 foot ground rods.
Any comments would be appreciated.
