First, let me apologize to you Rene, and to the reflector for
my "sarcastic" answer.

Every once in a while I have a bad day. After spending
the afternoon trying to fix my American made American
truck with American tools, only to find METRIC hardware,
I was a little "testy". (Why do they make everything so
hard to access?)

In my defense, I sensed a "flip" tone to the way you posed
your questions which made me wonder if you were taunting
the reflector.

Your signature " Renegade
> - from the Peoşles Reşûblïç of Winnetka"

and your concluding "in your face" statement:
"The “Gene Pool” has no lifeguards"
supported my hunch that your questions had a sarcastic
tone to them. I accept your statement that you were
sincere in your questions.

If you want a respectful answer to your questions,
I recommend that you ask your questions in a tone
that is respectful of the time and effort invested by
knowledgable providers and be willing to spend some
of YOUR time preparing yourself to understand the
information provided.

You need to understand that to answer your questions
about the design of a 5L Yagi would involve a LOT of
effort on the part of someone who has taken the time
and expended the effort to learn antenna design. NOT
an insignificant task.

To understand an appropriate answer to your questions
about Yagi Design, YOU need to do some studying
to become familiar with the terminology and significant
factors in the design and construction of antennas.
I recommend any recent edition of the ARRL Antenna
Handbook as a starting point.

If you merely want some design SOLUTIONS, that
information is available in Antenna Handbooks and
here on TowerTalk (or in the archives), and other places.

If you would prefer NOT to expend the time and effort
necessary to understand Yagi design, then you really
would be better off buying commercial antennas. Rest
assured that the manufacturers spent a lot of THEIR
time and effort designing their products.

Very good USED antennas, such as the HyGain 105BA
and Cushcraft 104CD can be purchased inexpensively
if you take the time and effort to look for them.

To answer your questions about my qualifications
and accomplishments, I have a BSEE and MSEE
and am employed as a Radio Receiver Design Engineer.
I have been an active DXer / Contester / station
designer / builder for 45 years.

Using less than legal power and GOOD but modest
antennas, I have worked over 2830 band countries
on the 9 amateur bands from 160 through 10 meters,
reaching honor roll DXCC status on 5 bands and
closing in on the others.

Again, I apologize for misconstruing your questions.
