I made no disparaging remarks about lawyers...my son is one and I would
never confuse the clients with the attorneys. Certainly there are bad
examples out there, but not to any greater degree than any other profession.
I was just trying to point out that we should not give up valuable freedoms
to an unreasonable fear of litigation. And that in this somewhat dangerous
radio pursuit of ours, I don't think towers are uniquely subject to
liability concerns.
I don't take Dave Jordan's comments as a "personal attack" against
anyone.... he named no names....although unfortunately he seems to be one of
a growing multitude with a poor general opinion of the legal profession. But
he's entitled to it, wouldn't you say?
Back to the subject: maybe there's a good opportunity to save some $ by
homebrewing a tower? It's only a small example, but since forever the ARRL
Handbook has had a diagram of a support made from 2x4's. And I once made a
30-foot "tower" about 1 foot square out of do-it-yourself chain-link fence
hardware from home depot..... it only supported a vertical, but it stayed up
for 4 years until I took it down and sold it when I moved.
Cheers & Happy Holidays, Jerry K3MGT
PS... I send my son every lawyer joke I can find (he loves them)
