Hi,
Here is some scoop on the Rohn Clones straight from the "horse's mouth", so to
speak.
N6TR bought the proto-type sections of Rohn-Clone 45 but I am not sure he has
put them up yet. I think there were 7 sections. No more have been built to
this date. The first prototypes of Clone 45 did not quite measure up to my
high standards for esthetics so they were sold at cost to a local who could
actually see what he was buying. My standards call for even an experienced
tower installer to not be able to tell which sections are real Rohn 45 and
which are Clones. On the prototypes, you could see the differences in the Z
bracing since those long rods were not bent on a fixture making them all
exactly alike and exactly like Rohn's Z bracing. The manufacturer and I had
discussions about it and he simply got too busy with other, more interesting,
projects and the whole Clone tower idea fell into a crack. It is not a dead
idea yet as K7PN and I keep talking about how to revive it. The problem seems
to be the availability of reliable manpower to build it. Now, if we can just
figure out how to clone K7PN HIMSELF about 20 times . . .
I am still a Rohn Dealer but I would like very much to be a Rohn competitor.
If anything comes of this, I will certainly publish it here. Keep listening.
