WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It's a solvent. WD-40 doesn't leave a
lubricant behind when it evaporates.

Chain lubricant uses a carrier that also evaporates. However, it
carries a heavy lubricant down into the parts of the chain before it
evaporates. The carrier helps it penetrate, and then goes away.

This might be a poor explanation, but is close. By the way, I use
PreLube 6 on my cables. It is available at www.championradio.com, under
Miscellaneous on the left web frame for $7.50.
