I spent the better part of my adult working life working on electric hanging
scaffolds.
These scaffolds normally hang from the roof of a tall building by cable
attached to motors on each end of the scaffold.

As my life tended to depended on the cables, I treated them with respect.

I did not coat them with WD-40, goose grease, Simonize, motor oil, or any
other home remedy.
Myself and my employees were strict in maintaining our cables with a proper
cable lubricant.

When you consider the investment you have in a tower, I will never
understand why anyone would consider using a "this stuff should work" when
the proper item is so readily available.


I've read that the Prime Directive is to follow the manufactures
recommendations.
I submit that the Prime Directive includes using the proper product for the
task.
