Re the ladder, I highly reccomend it. I didn't mention it in the post
but I have a F12 420/240 beam on the TX472 now. The 40 required lots of
adjustment on the linear loading wires. The mounting plate is really 2
plates bolted together, one on the mast and one on the boom. I pulled 4
of the 5 bolts that hold the plates together and left the other bolt
very loose with a double nut on it. With the tower down, I could tilt
the boom down where it was parallel to the ladder and wrestle it around
to reach the shorting straps and adj them. I then brought it back to
horizontal, rotated it 180 deg w rotator and did the same on the other
element. I was up on the ladder about half way. I tuned it at 20 ft on a
fieldstrength antenna about 400 ft away You feel quite safe standing on
the ladder and working. I am surprised that everyone doesn't use the
ladder approach with the crankups. The only thing to be concerned with
is the top of the ladder where it rests on the tower. I got the
description of the added yoke on the top backwards in my description in
the previous post. Of course, the yoke attaches to the ladder not the
tower. I do not use a commercial yoke but a homemade aluminum one. You
could even make one out of scrap wood.
