There have been several excellent homebrew tower articles over the years.

In the early 70's there was an article by a W5 on building a 70 foot crank
up (QST).

In the mid 70;s W0SYK showed how to roll your own 100 foot big bertha.  Had
a compete list of tubing
required. (IT cost $1600 then just for materials).   You had to be a expert
welder to proceed or hire one.
(HAM radio or 73).

Recently K4IHP showed how to build your own mast to hold a tri-bander (QST
late 90's).
