You've definitely caught my attention on this topic.
I'm planning my first ever tower this coming spring and would like to
hear more
about the telephone pole idea. I especially would like to know the details
of
attaching the rotor but feel free to share all ideas with me. FYI, I'm
looking at nothing more than maybe 50' max. Thanks very much and take care.

Talk to the Power Co for poles new or used. Talk to the crews out on the
job to get them to install it for you. It should take about an hour, no
concrete or guys and no risk on your part. Tell them "you and your folks have
been buying electricity for over a Century and you could use a favor for all
the business in the past and the future." I've used that several times. Ask
them what they like to drink and promise a case or a reasonable quantity of
it--after the installation in a BROWN UNMARKED BOX (first ask how many will
be on the crew?). That's inexpensive skilled labor and both end up happy. One
crew didn't drink so I got them each a bucket of Kentucky Friend Chicken an a
case of pop. You must be very creative to motivate Civil Service Employees.
I even got a tree cutting crew to cut down a tree that had fallen into
another tree free one time when they were close. The main office may only
charge $50--inquire.
You need to SECURELY bolt heavy brackets to the pole for rotator and mast
supports while it's on the ground. Or make brackets to hold a 10' section of
tower adjacent to the top of the pole for the rotor and mast. Or stick the
pole into a 10' tower section for 5' and secure it really good. Mount the
rotor and mast in the top 5' section. Have the step spikes installed or do it
yourself. Do a good job.
