Mark,

If you don't already own it, you MUST purchase the book by John Devoldere,
ON4UN, "Low Band DXing". It contains all the latest designs and how-to info for
160-40 meters. I have built several of these antennas with great success.

One such success is the 2-element parasitic Delta loop array. I built this for
40 meters. It is easy to scale the design from the 80 meter design described in
the book. My multi-single team used this antenna in the 1999 CQWW CW contest,
and it has become fondly known around here as the "Killer Loops". This antenna
uses two triangular loops with the apex at the top. It is suspended by only one
rope that goes between two trees - at about 50 feet. The bottom is only about 8
feet off the ground. I found fairly close spacing - about 18 feet - to be most
effective. It is a switchable array. Even though you use it almost entirely for
working one direction, it is useful to have the ability to switch it the other
way. When you hear that F/B ratio, you instantly reassure yourself that the
antenna is working just fine!

If you arm yourself with some wire, rope, coax, Radio Shack relays, an antenna
analyzer, a few good trees, fishing gear or bow/arrow combo, and the ON4UN
book, you can be VERY dangerous!

Jim K1IR
