When gale force solar winds sweep over  planet earth antenna gain, TO angle,
amplifier power and operator skill can be of relatively little significance.
Living here in VE5 land I have experienced the depths of an auroral black
hole in the middle of a contest. There is nothing you can do but go to the
bar and wait it out. I expect that Q rates and contest scores may be more
closely related to geographical location (particularly latitude) than to
gain, power and skill than we might expect. Comments?
