That's the reason for using the power attenuator, suggested in my
previous
post. It will work in transmit as well as receive. You insert it in
and out at will, during your QSO's. You look for any noticeable change
in receive success and stay sensitive to any report variations from the
distance station. Ask him if he sees any noticeable difference with the
1 db attenuator in or out.
All the other variables continue as they are. It doesn't matter what
antenna you use or the pattern, or your receiver's S/N. What ever
station combination you use and whatever propagation you are currently
experiencing, is the environment you test in, for your station.
What we are trying to resolve is: does -1 db make any appreciable
difference, transmit and receive?
