The Gear drives are double reduction with a small worm gear driving a larger
worm gear. They are rated at 1/4 hp input. The input shaft is 1/2 inch with a
key and the output is 1 inch with a key. The input is opposite the output.
They are approximately 10 inches by 10 inches by 8 inches high including the
input and output shafts. The main body is about 5 inches high with 4 cast
bosses that take 3/8 inch bolts. I plan to use some with a flex coupler
direct to a 550 rpm motor. They weigh approximately. 30 pounds without the
original motor. The original set up was with a chain drive from the motor to
the gear box so you could use a higher speed AC motor with a smaller gear on
the motor to drop the speed down. The chain looks like number 35 pitch chain.
The gear box fits into a 18 inch face tower quite nicely and I imagine it
would fit a 12 inch tower but I don't think the antenna you would turn with
this gear box you would want on a 12" face tower. I will try to get a digital
photo to show the gear box but I hope this is enough info.
