[TowerTalk] phylistrand/dead horse/clamps

Guys,

I've heard lots of talk but no explanation on why cable clamps have to
be put on with the u side on the "dead end"

My logic tells me that the small radius of the saddle ends is more
likely to introduce a higher local stress concentration than the large
radius U bolt.   This means to me possible notching and then breakage
of the strands. Also there are twice the number of these small radius
stress concentrators.  

WA9ALS pointed out that Glenn-Martin diagrams show the clamps the
other way.
All Glenn Martin towers use only phylistrand.  I am not sure it makes
any difference to phylistrand.  First the plastic cover takes the
stress concentration.  Second the strands are not twisted together but
rather run parallel to the the cable.  

Again please enlighten me.
