[TowerTalk] Single Wire Antenna?

Inverted L. Up 63, out 70.

Fed against ground. Low Z on 160, hi Z on 80/40/30. A mild number of
radials. I'm going to move this antenna to a different part of the
property, and put down a lot more radials there.

For Low Z, coax run is about electrical 1/4 wave on 160 fed to tuner
(Ameritron ATR-30).
For Hi-Z, have large powdered Iron torroid with three windings, 14 turns
each.
Switch to go from 160 & direct to torroid & 80/40/30

The bottom of first winding to ground and coax shield. Top of
first/bottom of second to the coax feed. Top of third winding to wire.
Have tried four windings, but better overall match at three.

This runs in using the same coax as for 160 operation. Tuner to bypass
mode on 40 meters and 30 meters. Use tuner to go from 3.5 to 4.0 MHz

Patterns: fairly like a vertical on 160, though moderate horizontally
polarized, high angle radiation not seen on pure verticals. 80/75 has a
hemispherical pattern, mix of vertical and horizontal. Current max is at
the bend. On 40 it behaves mostly like a dipole made only with the
horizontal portion. I have it broadside to NE and SW. In a very
counter-intuitive way, the radiation from the vertical wire is mostly
cancelled out. On 30 meters it's an omni-directional lowish angle
antenna.

Probably the best, most versatile single wire antenna I've ever had.
