yes the stuff is called contax...small letters, by Blackburn inc. out of
St.,Louis, and I get it in the electrical supply department at Home Depot.
It's described as an oxidation inhibitor for electrical conductors. This
type goo came out after all the mobile homes burned up due to aluminum
wiring, and the same old connectors. Now almost all outlets are AL/CU rated,
and this goo goes under the screwhead to make an even better connection.
Anyway I don't know what's in it, but it's black and sticky and very goo-ey.
I also use it on counterpoise manifolds made from aluminum ( these are just
Neutral Buss bars ...you gessed it, available at Home Depot in the
electrical department. Aluminum bars with 6 or 8 holes, and screws that
tighten down any wire inserted into the hole). After 3 or 4 years of sitting
under the vertical, totally exposed to rain etc, the goo is still on there.
Another place I put it is on the groundrod connectors, then stick an
aluminum soda can with the top cut off over the joint and bury it. The soda
can keeps the dirt off the goo.
