You might try an alternative that I use. Boat trailers use grease caps on
their hubs generically called auto-lubers, making it easy to pack the wheel
bearings. One major brand is Bearing Buddy. They make a vinyl cover to cap
off the luber to prevent grease slinging onto the wheels. They are called
Bearing Buddy Bras. They come in several sizes, and stretch nicely over
masts as caps. No clamps necessary to hold them in place even in the
severest of winds. It also keeps wasps from building nests inside the mast
where you do not want them! Most marine retailers as well as Wal Mart carry
them in my area. I also use them for boom caps on my yagis. They are made
for UV and salt water environments. Some I have had up for over 20 years
still look new!
